Evening Outreach

AWAC started the Evening Outreach Program which runs year round and serves individuals experiencing homelessness and living outdoors.  Staff prepare hot beverages, snacks, and winter apparel and drive throughout the streets of Prince George from the hours of 7:00 PM to 3:00 AM to seek out individuals who may be residing outdoors. Staff encourage and advocate for individuals to access shelters and will provide transportation accordingly. If individuals refuse supports or are not permitted in shelters, the individual is made as comfortable as resources allow and are provided with winter apparel including socks, gloves, toques, scarves, a winter jacket, and sometimes a sleeping bag.

The individuals who are connected with on the streets are provided with supports to identify and overcome various barriers, are provided with information about and/or are referred to appropriate community agencies and supports. The RCMP are notified of circumstances and to do safety checks on people outside not wanting to access shelters.

The Evening Outreach Program accepts donations of winter apparel, hot chocolate, quick access and non-perishable food items, and basic hygiene items.
